Nirvana's Nevermind was Released 30 Years Ago


Nirvana were the kings of Grunge, Kurt Cobain was a leader for a lost generation, and the Smells like Teen Spirit was their anthem.
In 1991, Nirvana would goes into the studio to record their follow up album to "Bleach". Armed with new songs, new drummer David Grohl, producer Butch Vid and a budget of $65,000. Nirvana would do the unthinkable when created "Nevermind", Nirvana created the album that killed 80's Hair Band Metal. "Nevermind" was a musical monster unleashed on the world with twelve songs, a hidden track "Endless Nameless", four singles, four music videos, and hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Nirvana's lead singer Kurt Cobain became the voice for a lost generation and and one of the biggest musical icons of the 90's. Cobain is also labeled as the "King of Grunge". "Nevermind" was Nirvana's biggest album compared to Bleach, Incesticide, or In Utero. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" became one of Nirvana's most popular songs, and to this day is Nirvana's most well-known song.

Things You Did Know About Nirvana's "Nevermind":
  1. The album’s original title was Sheep.
  2. The album cover was inspired by Cobain’s interest in water births.
  3. Nirvana began recording the songs in 1990 with Butch Vig for a planned second Sub Pop release.
  4. Sonic Youth encouraged DGC to sign Nirvana.
  5. Cobain blew his voice out recording “Lithium”.
  6. The songs were kept simple on purpose.
  7. The baby boy on the cover of Nevermind was almost a girl.
  8. Nirvana were kicked out of their own Nevermind release party.
  9. The hidden track "Endless Nameless" was mistakenly left off the first 50,000 copies
  10. "Nevermind" famously knocked Michael Jackson’s Dangerous off the top of the charts.
  11. Weird Al Yankovic parodied Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, titling it "Smells like Nirvana".
