Restoring Rough Cuts From The Worst Game-to-Movie Adaptation... Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. is label as one of the worst Game-to-Movie Adaptation in the history of Cinema. But is still a cult classic phenomenon in many people's eyes. But why?

The sprit under went many re-writes and changes. Their many Directors, Producers, and A-list Actors attached to the project. Some of the first actors to be offered the part of Mario were Dustin Huffman, Danny DeVito, and Tom Hanks. Michael Keaton and Arnold Schwarzenegger were both offered the role of King Koppa. But it was Bob Hoskins that would chosen to portray Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi, and Dennis Hopper as King Koppa.

The sprit was contently being changed during the filming of the movie, intoxicated actors, lack of communication between the Directors, Producers, and Actors. The budget for the movie was around 48 million and only made back made $20,915,465. After filming Hoskins, Leguizamo and Hopper all say in later interviews that they regretted being involved with the movies. Some how with the film being a total disaster, it would resonate with fans and become a cult classic.

In May 15th 2019, Garrett Gilchrist discovered tapes containing over 15 mins of extra material from the film. Gilchrist, who is a director and editor took on the task of restoring and recrafting the extended footage. Garrett used EBSynth, Virtualdub, Photoshop, Premiere, the Remini Photo app, Topaz AI Gigapixel, After Effects restore the damage rough cuts of the film. It took Garrett Gilchrist about 3 weeks to restore the 15 minutes of extended rough cuts of the film.
